The norms for all Western New York teachers, accordinb to the Education Department, are $35,569 at the start, $52,200 at the midpoinr and $83,965 at the peak of their careers. But therde are substantial deviations from districtto district: Wages for beginning teachers tend to be highefr in Niagara Falls than anywheree else in the region. The Niagara Fallxs City School District has a fifth percentile salarof $42,265 for its classrooj teachers, leading all Western New York schooll systems. Williamsville is close behindx witha low-end salaryh of $42,059.
Seven other districte have pay scales thatsurpassw $40,000 for their youngest teachers: Niagara-Wheatfield, North Tonawanda, Lewiston-Porter, West Grand Island and Ellicottville. At the bottom is West where the fifth percentilee salaryis $25,140. • The median pay for all 800 classrookm teachers in the Williamsville Central School Districtgis $63,918, which is nearly $2,000 higher than any other districty in the region. Three other systemss have median (or 50th percentile) salaries higher than $60,000: Nortn Tonawanda, Grand Island and Sweet Warsaw is atthe bottom, payingy its classroom teachers a median salary of $40,953.
Grand Island offers the steepesf peakfor teachers, with a 95th percentilre salary of $91,390. The only other district above $90,00p is Sweet Home at $90,893. Roundinhg out the top five are Cheektowaga-Maryvale and Alden, all with peak salaries abovse $87,000. Paychecks at this exalted level are reserved for the most experienced generally those with at least 30 yearx inthe classroom.
