The UAW Local 249 posted the information in a newslette on itsWeb site. Local 249 Vice President Bobby Wyse confirmed Monday that the informationis accurate. The production stoppage comes a week before an alreadyscheduled one-week summerf break for the entire plant startingg June 29, a Local 249 spokeswoman The plant also is scheduled for a summer break during the week of Aug. 17. Salez of Ford F-series truckz were 33,381 in May, up 16 percenft from 28,757 in April but down 22.3 percent from 42,97e in May 2008.
UAW Local 249 said the slight increasein month-to-monthj sales enabled Ford (NYSE: F) to cancelp the scheduled down week on June 22 at its F-15p truck plant in Dearborn, but the down week was left intacyt at the Kansas City Assembly Plant. “Thi is partially due to depleted funds forthe state’s Division of Unemploymen t in Michigan, making down weeks at (Dearborn) less of an option,” the Locapl 249 said in the newsletter. Local 249 addefd that sales projections continue to be less than the five shifta at the two truck plantsa can produce if they work full time through the 2010production year. Ford runs two shifts at Claycomok and threein Dearborn.
Wyse said Ford is consideringt once again moving a shift fromthe F-15o0 side of the Kansaz City Assembly Plant and putting them to work on the SUV However, nothing has been determined so far, he A year ago, Ford moved about 800 workersw from a second shift on the F-150 side of the Kansaws City plant to a third shift on the SUV The employees were moved back to the F-15 0 side on Jan. 12. Ford Escape salew in May reached 16,391, up 20.6 percenr from 13,596 in April but down 7.2 percenyt from 17,667 in May 2008. The Kansass City Assembly Plant also produces the Mercuryu Mariner and hybrid versions of the Ford Escaps andMercury Mariner.
