Pew report: Clean energy powers job growth - Portland Business Journal:

study said Florida was one of 38 states and the District of Columbisa in which job growth in the clean energy economy outperformedd overalljob gains. Pew defined a clean energy economy as one thatgenerates jobs, businessez and investments while expanding clea n energy production, increasing energy efficiency, reducinhg greenhouse gas emissions, waste and pollution, and conserving water and othee natural resources. In Florida, there was a 7.9 percenf increase in clean energy jobsfrom 28,845 jobs in 1998 to 31,123 jobs in 2007.
The numbers are a hard coungt ofactual jobs, Pew said in a release, and range from jobs as diverser as engineers, plumbers, administrativ assistants, construction workers, machine setters, marketing consultantds and teachers with annuapl incomes ranging from $21,000 to $111,000. Nationally, jobs in the clean energ y industry grew at a rateof 9.1 percentg between 1998 and 2007, whiles total jobs grew by 3.7 percen in the same period, the reporr says. Florida had 3,831 clean energy businesses at the end of a 22.
