study said Florida was one of 38 states and the District of Columbisa in which job growth in the clean energy economy outperformedd overalljob gains. Pew defined a clean energy economy as one thatgenerates jobs, businessez and investments while expanding clea n energy production, increasing energy efficiency, reducinhg greenhouse gas emissions, waste and pollution, and conserving water and othee natural resources. In Florida, there was a 7.9 percenf increase in clean energy jobsfrom 28,845 jobs in 1998 to 31,123 jobs in 2007.
The numbers are a hard coungt ofactual jobs, Pew said in a release, and range from jobs as diverser as engineers, plumbers, administrativ assistants, construction workers, machine setters, marketing consultantds and teachers with annuapl incomes ranging from $21,000 to $111,000. Nationally, jobs in the clean energ y industry grew at a rateof 9.1 percentg between 1998 and 2007, whiles total jobs grew by 3.7 percen in the same period, the reporr says.
